Liskeard, 1st.ed., 1986. 96 pp., profusely illustrated with photographs (some cold.). Pict. c.c., 23 x 22cm. Nr.FINE. Signed by one of the authors, Lt.Cmdr. David Smith. A book written to welcome a new aircraft carrier into the Royal Navy during the mid-1980s, HMS ARK ROYAL. This ship has prematurely ended her career, her Harriers scrapped with her, leaving Britain without a carrier force until the new carriers are fully operational. Recent events in the Middle East highlight the folly of that short-sighted policy. In this pictorial review, the authors provide photographs of the previous ARK ROYAL (1955-1979) - including views of her scrapping - before going on to give fine scenes from her construction and launch, to her first commission and deployment in the Mediterranean, etc. Also includes her aircraft, weapons, and her anti-submarine role. Profusely illustrated.
