The Journal of Commerce was Liverpool’s own shipping newspaper, published by Charles Birchall of James Street, who took over Sea Breezes from PSNC after the war. From time to time, the newspaper would issue large illustrated supplements, now sought-after, this being an early example published in the summer of 1933 and concentrating on Britain’s huge coastal fleet. This is evident in the list of coastwise services available and listed here, from : Aberdeen, Belfast, Bristol, Cardiff, Dundee, Glasgow, Newport, Humber, Leith, Liverpool, Llanelly, London, Manchester, Swansea, Southampton and the Tyne. Articles include : Functions of Master Lightermen & Barge Owners. Maintenance of a Steam Coaster Fleet. The Coastal Tramps of Liverpool. Excursion & Pleasure Steamers. Coast Lines two new Motorships. Harbour Improvements at Various Ports. Etc. Also contains an historical section on Clyde Shipping, London & Edinburgh Shipping, IOMSPCo., General Steam Navigation, Wm. Cory, P & A Campbell, Cosens, Coast Lines, Liverpool & North Wales SS Co., Burns & Laird, Belfast SS Co., Wm. Sloan, etc. SCARCE.
