The two well-known authors provide a detailed study of the Clyde steamers during the 19th and 20th centuries, and include vessels of the Caledonian Steam Packet Co., Glasgow & South-Western Railway Co., LMS, Williamson-Buchanan, LM&SR, North British Railway Co., Loch Lomond Steamers, British Railways, David MacBrayne, Clyde & Campbeltown Shipping, British Transport, Clyde Port Authority, and various private owners, plus vessels on lochs and ship canals. There are useful Fleet Lists and the book contains a wealth of information on the paddle-steamers and other vessels in Scottish waters. Each of these famous steamers are treated separately and in chronological order, and its wealth of data is presented in tabular format for easy reference.
