Cheltenham, 1st.ed., 2002. 184 pp., profusely illustrated with photographs. D.j., 25 x 21cm. FINE. The first comprehensive history of the eight light fleet aircraft carriers of the Colossus class : COLOSSUS, VENGEANCE, VENERABLE, GLORY, OCEAN, THESEUS, TRIUMPH and WARRIOR. These vessels were only meant for wartime service but they went on to pioneer the use of jet aircraft at sea between 1950 and 1953. Built towards the end of World War II, four of them bore the brunt of the Royal Navy’s commitment in the Korean War, and TRIUMPH was still a familiar sight in Singapore Naval Base and in Mombasa’s Kilindini Harbour in the latter half of the 1960s. Profusely illustrated with photographs.
