Bound in a blue card Manchester Uni. text-book ; green cloth spine ; 22 x 18cm. Covers rubbed o/w V.G. A contemporary scrapbook containing no less than 883 photographs and illustrations of World War Two aircraft. The cuttings come in a variety of sizes, some full-page, others much smaller, and the majority are black & white although there are a number of coloured cuttings too. The pictures come from newspapers, magazines and booklets of the Second World War period. In some cases the illustrations are simply pasted onto the page but in other cases they have been carefully inserted between two pasted pages with windows cut away to show off the picture. What makes this collection so important and valuable to the collector is that the compiler went to painstaking efforts to number each illustration individually and then to provide a separate hand-written key naming the aircraft depicted in each. On its own the album provides an interesting pictorial record of World War II aircraft from various contemporary sources, but together with this key it becomes a useful means of reference and an aid to identifying the aircraft of this critical period.
