David Westwood wrote two books on German U-boats and the Battle of the Atlantic (see items 237 & 238), and these are his 'Working Papers' for his research, providing data and notes on U-boats attacked by aircraft of the RAF, Canadian and US Air Forces during the Second World War. There are pages photo-copied from printed sources giving details of German, Italian and Japanese submarines sunk ; a MS. folding chart showing U-boat flotillas and their deployment October 1939 to May 1945 ; and ditto for the organization of the Kriegsmarine in June 1939. Individual air operation against U-boats and raids against U-boat bases by different squadrons are given in MS. Painstaking research containing a wealth of information on anti-submarine operations by Allied aircraft during World War II.
