First published in 1981, the author lived at Pin Mill by the River Orwell for 21 years and owned the last working sailing vessel under the Red Ensign, the famous barge CAMBRIA. In this book he introduces some of the colourful characters he met on the East coast, Essex marshes, and Rivers Thames and Medway over the years. Illustrated with many photographs, the reader is taken beyond the North Sea and home waters to the West Indies, Ascension Island, West Africa and Brazil as he relates his adventures in smacks, schooners, a converted RAF launch, but most of all aboard spritsail barges.
