The story of a circumnavigation cruise in the Swedish four-masted motor-schooner ALBATROSS after the war. Told by the expedition’s leader, he describes the first official deep-sea expedition under the Swedish flag, and gives a graphic account of the voyage which took the vessel across the Pacific Ocean calling at Tahiti and Hawaii. Its main purpose was scientific ; to explore the ocean bed in great depths, its deposits, their interaction with the ocean water, and the thickness of the sediment carpet. New information on rare underwater life was brought to light, and countless islands were visited for botanical samples.
