Barnsley, 1st.ed., 2008. 176 pp., profusely illustrated in colour. D.j., 23 x 23cm. FINE. This beautifully illustrated book throws light on a little-known 19th century war between Peru and Chile in which the Royal Navy played a peripheral but crucial role. One British eye-witness to this conflict of 1879-1881, was Rudolph de Lisle (1853-1885), a lieutenant in the Pacific Squadron. His diaries kept on-board the SHANNON are edited by his great nephew who generously illustrates the book with his great uncle's skilful watercolours.
