Hinges pulled o/w a bright copy & V.G. Hunt & Co., began as a firm of commercial printers, first publishing their celebrated Universal Yacht List in 1848. Issued annually, it contains the names and details of every yacht belonging to the Royal Yacht Club and other UK clubs for 1897. Details for each vessel includes Name, Rig, Dimensions, Tonnage, Owner, Club, Signal Letters, Year Built, Year Altered, Builder, Sailmaker, and Distinguishing Flag. Other contents include : List of Subscribers, Regattas, Clubs and their Officers, Alphabetical List of Owners, Signal Letters, Waterline Measurements of Yachts, Table of Amounts Won in 1896, Yachts whose Names have changed, Foreign Agents, individual Yacht Clubs, etc. This edition contains 33 pages of coloured ensigns, burgees and flags for Schooners, Yawls, Cutters, Sloops, and Luggers. Hunt's Yacht List, was founded years before Lloyd's which was launched in 1878. It survived until 1934 when it became Norrie's Yacht List. This rare little book contains a wealth of valuable information on the yachts and clubs of the Victorian heyday.
