The story of a little-known episode during the First World War involving two former LNWR short-sea steamers requisitioned by the Admiralty to become HM Ships TARA and SCOTIA ; the 1st, 2nd & 3rd Armoured Motor Batteries commanded by the 2nd Duke of Westminster and the men of the Western Desert Force. These ships had been built for the Holyhead to Dublin service, two of four vessels ordered from William Denny in 1897. The book deals chiefly with HMS TARA (Ex.
