The autobiography of John Coote who is well-known in yacht-racing circles but who began his career with the Royal Navy at the age of eighteen when war broke out in 1939. The main body of this book describes his exploits in the Mediterranean aboard U-class submarines ; his final war years being spent with the famous 10th flotilla based at La Maddalena off the northern coast of Sardinia. He remained in the Navy after the war and retired with the rank of captain. Includes accounts of wartime service in the UNTIRING and peacetime command of the TOTEM. FINE copy.
