A pre-war history of the River Clyde, its shipping and its great shipbuilding industry. The author begins with a description of the early Clyde, Glasgow, and the lower reaches of the river. He continues with a look at the pioneers of steam : Henry Bell, the Napiers, etc., before going on to describe the Clyde's tradition of shipbuilding from the days of sail and early steam to the recent magnificent achievement in the building of Cunard's QUEEN MARY.
