The celebrated journal Yachting World was founded in 1894 and continues to lead in the world of yachting today. Here are well over a hundred rare photographic Supplements from Volume I, Number 1 of 1894, to Volume III, Number 76, of 1895 (with a handful of apparent omissions). The large, chiefly full-page photographs, show both steam and sailing yachts, plus portraits of some of their wealthy owners. The latter include the Prince of Wales, Lord Brassey, the German Emperor, Sir John Burns, Prince Henry of Battenberg, Marquis of Anglesey, Lord Ashburton, Gordon Bennett, Earl of Dudley, Linton Hope, Barclay Walker, etc. Luxury sail and steam yachts include : BRITANNIA, METEOR, SUNBEAM, MIRAGE, PENTE, CAPERCAILZIE, ASPHODEL, LADY HERMIONE, STAR OF THE SEA, VENETIA, MORWENA, NAMOUNA, FLATFISH, FOXHOUND, VIGILANT, AMPHITRITE, ZINITA, CETONIA, EROS, RONA, ARIADNE, FEDORA, IONE, AILSA, CAVALIER, CERES, VIOLET, TAMESIS, GLOW-WORM, VALKYRIE III, CUHONA, GRETA, A. A. Wylie's VIDA, plus many others. These Supplements are hard to find today and depict the heyday of deep-sea and coastal yachting with some of the most beautiful vessels ever built. The book contains about 125 of the earliest Supplements from the mid-1890s, bound in a fine Liverpool brass-clasp binding.
