The photographs date from the 1850s to shortly after the First World War. Includes fishing cobles, Humber keels, collier brigs and large ocean-going square-riggers. There are also many fine views of the ports and harbours down the Northumberland coast, Tyne and Wear, and along the coasts of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. Each photograph is accompanied by a short narrative.
