Although the Royal Navy has more than four centuries of illustrious history behind it, it was not until 1954 that the Admiralty first gave official approval for a series of Battle Honours. This book is the first publication of that complete and comprehensive list from the Armada of 1588 to the first Gulf War. Each entry has a concise narrative setting out the salient points of the battle and the ships involved. The author also includes a number of actions that because of their complicated and contradictory circumstances, were not included by the Admiralty. The result is both a fascinating ‘dip into’ read and a useful source of reference. The book is divided into five parts : (I) Battle and Campaign Honours. (II) Battles not awarded Honours. (III) Single Ship and Boat Service Actions. (IV) Fleet Air Arm Squadron Honours. (V) Royal Marine Awards. THE FIRST COMPREHENSIVE LIST OF THE ROYAL NAVY’S BATTLE HONOURS. FINE COPY.
