The Bell ‘Huey’ series of helicopters totally transformed the world of aviation and fundamentally altered the nature of battlefield operations. The basic Model 204 was a truly multi-role utility helicopter and as a result there soon followed large and upgraded variants like the Model 205, the twin-engine Model 212 and the definitive Model 214. Simultaneously, Bell pioneered the concept of the attack helicopter with the classic Model 209 Cobra series derived from the ‘Huey’ utility helicopter. All these basic types went into world service in a host of civil and military applications. This book traces their history and development.
