This book is Montgomery's personal account, taken from his war diaries, of the Battle of El Alamein and the complete defeat of Rommel and his armies in North Africa. He subsequently led his Eighth Army onwards to the invasion of Sicily and Italy up to the River Sangro which concludes this book and leads into the companion volume above when Montgomery then assumed command of 21st Army Group. {Together these two volumes provide the complete story of Montgomery's victorious campaigns and give every detail of his masterly strategy.
