Kimber, 1st ed., 1976. 188 pp., photo-plates. D.j., 23 x 15cm. Subtle repair to rear of d.j., o/w V.G. These are the memoirs of a doctor who was unique in having simultaneously pursued two careers which complemented each other and thereby led to an overall experience which he recounts in a brilliant and moving style. On the ground he directed and took part in research in aviation medicine; in the air he joined the crews of Bomber Command and flew about 120 night bomber sorties over Germany and occupied Europe. He operated as second pilot, air gunner or parachute dispatcher. His flying brought him the Air Force Cross in 1942 and the Distinguished Flying Cross in 1944.
