Revised & updated ed., 1994. 295 pp., various photo-ills., + maps. D.j., 24 x 16cm. FINE. This is the story of the eight Battle and two Blenheim squadrons who fought with the Advanced Air Striking Force over France from 1939 with their early flight over the Franco-German border, until the final evacuation just prior to the fall of France towards the end of June 1940. The narrative is supported by the recollections of pilots and aircrew of both Battles and Blenheims of the AASF, Air Component and 2 Group, together with lists of the crews known to have taken part in all major sorties, and the subsequent losses. The book also includes an account of the famous attack on the bridges across the Albert Canal in which two VC’s were awarded to RAF airmen.
