Almark, New Malden, 1st ed., 1972. 64 pp., 9 cold., ills., + several b&w ills., + numerous b&w photo-ills. D.j., 21 x 15cm. V.G. This is a very comprehensive pictorial record of the dress, equipment, and men of the best-known British infantry regiments at a period when Britain’s small but well-trained army was at its colourful and most active. The South African Wars and many small colonial wars took place between the years 1880-1914. The illustrations, mostly photographic and with nine coloured drawings, are from the author’s personal collection. A good selection of varied orders of dress is included to show the contrasting styles of uniform worn by the different ranks on different occasions.
