The author undertook such a voyage himself, setting out in a winter gale, meeting summer at the Azores, and then crossing the Atlantic to the Americas. He describes this voyage and another he undertook from Curaçao aboard a small tanker bound for Maracaibo where he took to the road and over the tropical forests by air to visit and explore the oil fields.
