Volume II covers The Far East, the U-boat war and anti-shipping operations, the Western Desert, Malta and Tunisia, the strategic bombing offensive, Sicily, and the invasion of Italy (with subsequent operations to the fall of Rome, May, 1944). Volume III explores the combined bombing offensive, the Atlantic and the Bay of Biscay, the liberation of north-west Europe ' plans and preparations, Normandy and the battle for France, flying bombs and rockets, Italy and the Balkans, the advance into Germany and the final surrender, victory in Burma and the Far East, and the war in the air ' the balance sheet.
