When the author was posted as Flying Officer to No. 12 Squadron, Wickenby, Lincolnshire in 1944, he decided to keep a record of his bombing operations (more than 30 in all) in Lancasters over Germany and Occupied France. His diary provides a fascinating account of the raids, the crew's reactions, of happenings in the various Messes at Wickenby and of ground staff activities.
