The combination of traditional Sikorsky design and a turbine power-plant produced the world’s first truly capable anti-submarine helicopter fitted with sensors and armament– the Sea King. The type secured worldwide renown as the HH-3E Jolly Green Giant armed rescue helicopter in Vietnam. Westland in the UK has produced its own versions with much enhanced anti-submarine equipment and, after the Falklands conflict of 1982, British Sea Kings were fitted with radar to provide the Royal Navy with airborne early warning capability. Illustrated and examined in this book.
