Rep., 1984. 128 pp., frontis., + 154 other photo-ills. D.j., 25 x 19cm. FINE. This collection of photographs begins by depicting British army life at home: recruitment, training, famous regiments and recreation and follows with some famous Victorian and Edwardian commanders. There is a large and fairly unfamiliar section on the Crimean War, including some survivors of the Charge of the Light Brigade, as well as records of the army in India at the time of the Mutiny, at the Zulu and Boer Wars and the African victory at Atbara and Omdurman. The camera captures soldiers in defeat and victory, going about ordinary daily business, and at leisure.
