Bristol, FIRST EDITION, 1951. Xvi + 339 pp., 16 photo & other plates + 16 maps & plans, 8 of which are plates. Original green cloth; gilt armorial to front; 22 x 14cm. Small bump to top of book with front cover leaning a little & gentle creasing to a handful of pages o/w V.G. Although this book gives an account of the Devonshire Regiment from 1685 to 1945, it is mainly a history of the Regiment during the Second World War. The Devons fought gallantly at this time in Malta, where they were the first to arrive, then in Tunisia, Sicily, Italy, Burma, where the 1st Battalion fought at Imphal, on D-Day and afterwards in Normandy, Holland and Germany with the 2nd and 12th Battalions. Appendices include information on Colonels of the Regiment, Honorary Colonels T.A. Battalions, Short Battalion Histories, Honours and Decorations, Roll of Honour and an Index. Illustrated with photographs and maps, this is an interesting regimental history. Very Scarce First Edition Copy.
