Cox, Geoffrey.

Kimber, 1st ed., 1977. 284 pp., 3 maps + 2 e.p. maps. D.j., 24 x 16cm. Spine of d.j., a little faded o/w Nr.FINE. This book describes at first hand the final campaign in Italy in 1945, in which the author served as Intelligence Officer to General Freyberg VC and of whom he gives a vivid portrait. This campaign brought the British face to face in Trieste with the Yugoslavs who sought to incorporate that territory into Yugoslavia. Using the top level, top secret documents released under the 30 Year Rule, the book then tells the little known story of the confrontation between the Great Powers that followed and which was settled only after an exercise in brinkmanship by President Truman. SCARCE.
